Each year (dating back many years now), Luc Maurice is extremely involved with the Fondation Institut de gériatrie de Montréal.
The Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal is a leader in geriatric research in Quebec. It brings together many of researchers from around the world. Its research centre is recognized as the largest in the French-speaking world in the field of aging. We should be very proud of their work, because one day - and time passes so quickly - we will be the ones benefiting from their discoveries.
Several years ago, the Fondation Institut de gériatrie de Montréal needed money for expansion of its Research Centre. The project may have been largely subsidized by the health sector and the Fondation Institut de gériatrie de Montréal, but it would never have seen the light of day without additional funding from the private sector. That’s when Luc Maurice personally committed to contributing to the project by presiding over a huge fundraising campaign organized by his team which included several activities, including the big Bal du fil bleu. More than 300 influential people attended the ball, which allowed Le Groupe Maurice to raise the $600,000 that was needed.
Thanks to a great many generous donors, the IUGM Research Centre now showcases its discoveries in a new amphitheatre named Auditorium Groupe Maurice.
